Before we dive into how PUR can help you, I think it’s worth taking a moment to step back and talk about why PUR exists. Six years ago, I founded this company because I believe—wholeheartedly—in the power of storytelling. Stories aren’t just nice-to-haves; they’re fundamental to human connection, education, and moving the needle in a distracted, oversaturated world.
But here’s the thing: a lot of people forget that. We get bogged down in data, KPIs, and cold hard facts, forgetting that what drives people to act, to care, to learn—is emotion. It’s easy to lose sight of the spark that brought us to our work in the first place. I see it all the time with clients. They’ve become so entrenched in the details of their mission, product, or service that they forget they’re trying to reach an audience that doesn’t yet see the forest, let alone the trees.
My job—and PUR’s purpose—is to help organisations reconnect with that spark and translate it into something compelling for their audience. We build the bridge, showing the path that invites, excites, and scales impact.
So here’s why I started PUR.
I grew up struggling with reading due to undiagnosed dyslexia. But there was a lifeline: storytelling. I went to a school where education was woven into elaborate stories. I may not have been able to spell or read as well as my classmates, but I could connect with those stories. That connection let me participate, even if it meant speaking up instead of writing things down. It was survival mode, yes—but it was also the foundation of how I discovered my talent for oral storytelling.
There’s one vivid memory: I’m sitting in class, dreading my turn to read out loud. My heart’s racing. I can’t read what I’ve written, so I just start speaking, saying what I’d been thinking during the assignment. And you know what? It worked. It was better than anything I could have put on paper. That’s when I realised I had something different to offer, and that difference would become my strength.
In high school, through sheer persistence (and a bit of clever advice from my mom—“just pretend you can read, even if it’s for two pages a night”), I finally began to crack the code. By the time I hit university, one of my professors suggested I might be dyslexic after noticing my ability to speak with clarity and passion but struggle with written work. She was the first to give me an A, and she encouraged me to pursue a PhD. Instead, I pivoted to media, where I knew my talents for connecting with people through stories could truly shine.
The Evolution of PUR
From there, things took off. I co-founded a newspaper and even pitched an audio-based version of it, which earned funding. Eventually, I shifted my focus to helping organisations tell their own stories—especially those rooted in community impact. And that’s how PUR Production was born.
Today, we’re a content and research company that believes in the power of storytelling to educate, engage, and transform. In a world overwhelmed by notifications and distractions, we need stories more than ever to hold attention but more importantly to enable people to emotionally connect, this is what I believe is the magic source for well crafted educational content delivery. A well-told story, coupled with strong design, holds attention and makes messages stick.
That’s what PUR does. We cut through the noise to get to the heart of what matters, helping you tell your story in a way that resonates and meets the audience where they are, in a distractration minefield.
As always my best, Patrick
